Makeup Formulating Masterclass, January 27th Guelph
First Masterclass of 2019! Join us in Guelph on Sunday, January 27th for a full day of cosmetic science, all about color cosmetic products! In this session, we’ll explore all the basics you’ll need to know to make your own make-up. Topics will include a review of color additives in cosmetics, regulations for colors, and how to effectively use colorants, plus other important considerations such as preservation. Throughout the session, you’ll get to make the following products (made by you, custom to you and take home): eyeshadow, lipstick, mascara, and liquid foundation. We’ll be working with EcoCert approved natural and vegan ingredients, as well as Iron Oxides and Mica (optional), although we’ll cover the full spectrum of ingredients you can work with for these product types.
9:30am-10am: Topic - Color Additives
10am-11am: Product making - Eyeshadow
11am-12pm: Product making - Lipstick
1-1:30pm: Topic - Surfactant science, formulation considerations
1:30-2:30pm: Product making - Foundation
2:30-3:30pm: Topic - Preservation, pH adjusting
3:30-4:30pm: Product making - Mascara
The cost of the event is $325 and includes all the materials and supplies, an information booklet by The Eco Well, the 4 products that you’ll make yourself, and a certificate of completion for the class. We’ll also have tea and coffee on hand throughout the day. This class a bit on the advanced side but accessible to anyone interested! About the instructor:
Jen is a cosmetic chemist and director at The Eco Well. She holds two bachelors of science degrees from the University of Guelph, in Zoology as well as Nutrition and Nutraceutical Sciences, with an emphasis in cosmeceuticals. She completed her graduate studies in Cosmetic Chemistry. Jen’s business is focused on sustainable cosmetics and cosmetic science education, where she does seminars internationally, hosts a cosmetic science podcast, and helps beauty brands from around the world with their formulations through her consulting work.
